UNDP in Ukraine

Kyiv, 3 March: On the eve of the International Women’s Day, with this year's theme “Equal rights, equal opportunities: progress for all”, and with support from “National network of men-leaders against violence”, UNDP has supported signing of the "Declaration of Respect". The Declaration is in support of equal rights and opportunities of women and men, as well as children rights protection in Ukraine.

Kyiv, 1 March: A new model of job placement and employment for people with disabilities has been set for testing in two pilot regions.

Lugansk, 3 March: In the famous Donbass coal mining region in southeastern Ukraine, an innovative new project to capture methane emissions from the municipal landfill is being put in place by the local municipality in close collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Novograd-Volynskyi (Zhytomyr Region), 23 February: Steering Committee members of the joint UNDP and Coca-Cola Company Project “Every Drop Matters” (EDM) have visited Novograd-Volynsky municipality to review successful application of community-based approach aimed at improving access to safe drinking water in the city. Based on the achievements within the 1st phase of the project, the Steering Committee concluded to support the EDM project in 2010.

Simferopol, 24 February: The experience of creating long-term strategic plans by individual districts and their further implementation, including funds allocation, were on agenda of the conference entitled “Districts’ sustainable development planning as the foundation of Crimea’s strategy”. The conference was held by the UNDP-led "Crimea Integration and Development Programme" jointly with Crimea's Ministry of Economy.

Kyiv, 17-18 February: Ukrainian education system could be largely characterised as favouring gender stereotypes among children and youth. Therefore, it is important to include gender equality topics in educational programmes and curricula within secondary schools and higher education institutions. It was one of conclusions that were formulated during the All-Ukrainian gender education Forum “Education and equality”. The Forum was held at the initiative of Equal Opportunities and Women’s Rights in Ukraine Programme (a joint project of the European Union, UNDP abd SIDA).

Kyiv, 16 February: A unique directory “Botanical gardens and arboretums” has been released in Ukraine. It contains fullest collection of data on history of creation and development featuring 26 Ukrainian botanical gardens and 17 arboretums.

Lutsk, 2 February: For the first time in the country's history a National Nature Рark has received a new international recognition status on the list of transboundary territories of international importance. This new transboundary Ramsar Site “Stokhid-Pripyat-Prostyr” unites lowlands of Ukrainian and Belarusian rivers Stokhid, Pripyat and Prostyr.

Kyiv, 3 February: Olivier Adam, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations and UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine, and his Russian counterpart Frode Mauring have visited Chornobyl nuclear power plant site.

Simferopol, 25-29 January: The UNDP-led Crimea Integration and Development Programme has delivered a series of workshops entitled “Legislative framework for managing communal property (water supply units) on the basis of community organizations” in order to further boost local authorities’ capacity in decentralised water supply management.
