Many of us might be sick of "reforms" as such. Yet, we all want to have a fair trial when going into court. We don't want to experience any dignity humiliation. We want to be sure that the court acted in accordance with the law when loosing our case. Should the judicial reform be implemented in Ukraine? What can be the consequences of blocking the process of reform? How did Slovaks manage realize everyone's right to fair trial during the judicial reform implementation? What benefits did Slovak citizens and judges get from the judicial reform? How can the understanding of own interest popularise judicial reform in the society? To find out all this, please, watch the UNDP-produced documentaries "ALL RISE, LET THE REFORM PROCEED" and "RES JUDICATA".
These two documentaries (25 minutes each) were produced in the framework of the project "Marketing Democracy: Promoting Judicial Reform Through Mass Media in Ukrainian", which was funded by UN Development Programme in Ukraine.
Documentaries demonstrate certain weaknesses in the country's judicial system, prove the urgency for further implementation of the judicial reform in Ukraine, give practical tips regarding the possibilities of improving the judicial protection of rights, freedoms and citizen's legal rights by taking as an example the recent judicial reform in neighbouring Slovakia.
The first film "ALL RISE, LET THE REFORM PROCEED" is dedicated to the realities of judicial system functioning in Ukraine today.
The second film "RES JUDICATA" introduces the best practices in protecting citizens' rights and freedoms, European principles of judicial system organization, practice of judicial system functioning on the Slovak examples.
The documentaries represent different views and approaches to judicial reform, which are being presented through a selection of interviews with main actors and stakeholders in the judicial reform. The films' characters prove that courts shouldn't serve someone's interests other than those to the benefit of citizens and state!
Films' producers would like to thank our national and foreign partners for their assistance in filming and broadcasting the documentaries on Ukrainian television channels. The success of these movies wouldn't be possible without the support from the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine, Embassy of Ukraine in Slovak Republic, and Ministry of Justice of Slovak Republic.
The films were commissioned by the Center for Ukrainian Reform Education and produced by the "Converging Worlds" video production studio within the implementation of a UN Development Programme-funded project "Marketing Democracy: Promoting Judicial Reform Through Mass Media in Ukraine".
The views, findings and recommendations expressed in these films are those of their authors and characters alone. They do not necessarily represent the views of UNDP, its Executive Board or the UN Member States.
